Sight Savers and Hohoe Hospital builds eye centre

Hohoe, Sept 25, GNA – The Hohoe Municipal Hospital, in collaboration with Sight Savers International, have built a one-stop eye centre costing GHc 100,000. The facility has the capacity to handle clients in the northern part of the Volta Region.

Dr Edwin Danoo, Medical Superintendent of the Hohoe Municipal Hospital, told the GNA that the state-of-the-art equipment had given the hospital the capability to handle all eye cases. The centre can deal with glaucoma, cataract and trachoma and undertake major and minor surgical operations. Others are rehabilitation of the blind and provision of optical services. He said for clients under the National Health Insurance Scheme are covered except for the optical service. Dr Danoo called on members of the public to report all cases relating to the eye in earnest and refrain from self-medication to avoid causing irreparable damages to the eye as an organ.
