SIF undertaking projects in Suhum District

Suhum, Nov. 21, GNA- The Social Investment Fund (SIF) has embarked on some development projects in the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar district at a cost of one billion cedis.

The projects, which are to be financed by the SIF, the District Assembly and beneficiary communities, include schoiol blocks, clinics and nurses’ quarters.

The Executive Director of the SIF, Ms Ama Serwa Dapaah, said this when she inspected the projects last Wednesday.

Ms Dapaah said some of the projects are to be completed by the end of the year, whilst the remaining would be started early next month.

She said the Fund is constructing a cassava-processing centre at Akote-Traio, adding that 25 women would be trained in managerial and maintenance skills to be sponsored by the South Akim Rural Bank.

She said the SIF is contributing 75 per cent of the cost of the projects while the District Assembly is paying 15 per cent and the beneficiary community, 10 per cent in the form of labour.

The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Mr Godfried Okyere, called on the beneficial communities to inculcate into the people the culture of maintenance, adding that if most of the previous structures were well maintained money spent on new structure could be used to provide new structures for other communities.

He commended the management of the SIF for providing the facilities to the communities and gave the assurance that he would also assist with his MPs Common Fund to ensure the completion of the projects.
