Shots fired as Somanya residents clash with Police

Two people have reportedly been injured in a fracas between Police in Somanya and residents following the arrest of the alleged leader of last Friday’s chaos over ECG bills.

The youth of the Krobo town are currently on rampage and have, according to StarrFMonline.com sources, attacked and damaged a vehicle belonging to the Police.

The alleged ringleader of the Friday chaos, Dindiindin Adamitey, an assemblyman, was picked up by the Police Monday morning and is currently in custody assisting with investigations.

According to an eyewitness, Mikel, chaos has engulfed the town as the Police resort to warning shots in an attempt to disperse the angry crowd.

The angry residents caused damages to a pickup truck belonging to the state power distributor.
They were are protesting exorbitant bills submitted to them by the ECG this month.

An angry resident Philip Tetteh Padi who spoke to StarrFMonline.com said the ECG officials were going around the community disconnecting power to homes without explaining to indigenes the sudden ballooning in their bills.

“I paid GHC100 last month, but this month they brought me a bill of GHC4,500. We cannot pay such huge bills. We have embarked on a peaceful protest to seek answers for the quantum and shocking changes,” he said.
