Shortage of nurses is no excuse for poor service

Saltpond (C/R), March 17, GNA – A Deputy Director of Nursing Service, Ms Bertha Aboagye Agyeman, has stated that shortage of nurses in the country should not be an excuse for poor health delivery. “Quality health delivery gives satisfaction to both the client and the health worker,” Ms Agyeman noted.

She was speaking at a training workshop organized by the Mfantseman District directorate of Health Service for health workers in the district.

Plan Ghana, a c hild-centred non-governmental organization, sponsored the workshop.

Mr Jacob Turkson, Mankessim Area Manager of Plan Ghana, said the organisation’s major concern was the welfare of the child, hence its support for child-oriented projects such as National Immunization Days (NIDs), education, waster systems and training of health volunteers. He expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between the District Health Directorate and his organization in the implementation of health programmes.

Mr Samuel Sosi, District Director of Health Service, expressed concern about poor documentation at health facilities, saying the situation had resulted in inadequacy of vital information, which could have been of good use to the facilities.

Mr Sosi said the inception of the Mutual Health Insurance had increased the workload at many health facilities and advised the workers to accept the challenge and live up to expectation.

Some of the topics treated at the two-day workshop were quality assurance, integrated management of childhood illnesses, family planning and data management.
