Sherry Ayitey Undergoes Surgery in London

A defence Counsel in the alleged corruption case in the divestiture of the Ghana Real Estates Limited (GREL), Mr. D.O. Lamptey today informed an Accra Fast Track High Court that the first accused has undergone surgery in London.

Defence Counsel said, although Ms. Ayitey has been discharged by the hospital where the surgery took place, she cannot immediately avail herself for trial. This is because at the moment Ms. Ayitey is undergoing post-surgery treatment in London. Mr. Lamptey told the court however, that, the accused person would be in the country by the middle of July, to open her defence.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mr. Osafo Sampong suggested that the case be continued in the absence of Sherry Ayittey, since second accused person, Mr. Emmanuel Agbodo was in court and could open his defence.

Mr. Agbodo who was the former boss of the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC)?s lawyer, Mr. J.H. Senoo, prayed the court to adjourn the case for his client to prepare before opening his defence.

Another accused person in the case, Mr. Ralph Casely Hayford, an Engineer, was in court too, but he had already closed his case. Meanwhile, the judge handling the case, Mr. Justice Amonoo Monney, has adjourned it to the 24th of his month.
