Shatta Wale Denies Fraud Ties After Arrest of Associate in $100m Scam

Shatta Wale has denied any involvement in fraud after one of his close associates was arrested in connection with a multimillion-dollar cyber fraud scheme involving U.S. authorities.

In a video shared on social media on Wednesday, June 18, the Ghanaian dancehall artiste rejected claims suggesting his wealth was linked to the alleged $100 million scam that has led to the arrest of three individuals in Accra.

“My money is clean. Because your industry artistes and favourites can’t buy the things I buy, you think I’m doing fraud.”

The statement follows reports that Kofi Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Kofi Boat—a known associate of Shatta Wale—was apprehended alongside two others by a joint Interpol-FBI team on June 13, 2025. The arrests stem from a U.S. indictment issued in 2023, which charged the suspects with wire fraud and money laundering in connection with Business Email Compromise (BEC) and romance scams targeting victims globally.

According to the indictment, the three allegedly conspired to defraud individuals and businesses, mainly based in the United States, using compromised email accounts and fake romantic relationships to siphon off large sums of money. A fourth suspect remains at large.

Though no official statement from law enforcement has implicated Shatta Wale in the criminal activities, his name began trending on social media shortly after news of the arrests broke, prompting widespread public speculation.

In his video response, the On God hitmaker appeared visibly upset by what he described as unwarranted scrutiny of his lifestyle.

“Don’t try to compare me to anyone. I’ve worked hard to be where I am. Everything I have is from my sweat and talent,” he said.

Shatta Wale, who is known for his flamboyant persona and outspoken views, did not deny knowing the arrested individuals but stressed that their alleged actions had nothing to do with him or the source of his income.

The FBI has yet to comment on whether further investigations will involve any other individuals connected to the suspects.

Meanwhile, public reaction remains divided, with fans defending the artiste’s hustle, while others continue to question the financial circles surrounding high-profile figures in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
