Shama MP donates mono desks, laptop computers to schools

Mr. Gabriel Essilfie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Shama, on Monday called on the people to support the government and the District Assembly to develop education in the area to an appreciable level.

The Government and the District Assembly cannot satisfactorily develop education without the involvement of the people, he said.

Mr Essilfie made the call when presenting school furniture and 30 laptop computers estimated at GHS25,000 to 12 basic schools in his constituency at a ceremony at Shama.

Newly established Abuesi Methodist Junior High School received 120 pieces of mono desks and three laptops while the remaining schools received laptops computers, teacher’s tables and chairs as well as computer tables and chairs.

Mr Essilfie said he is determined to raise educational standards in the area to enable children to come out with flying colours in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He said he is also determined to open more ICT laboratories in schools to make it possible for children in the area to use the technology to acquire knowledge.

Mr Enoch Kojo Appiah, the Shama District Chief Executive, said about 7,000 dual desks and 336 laptop computers have already been distributed to schools in the area through the initiative of the MP and the District Assembly.

He expressed worry that educational standards in the area were falling, resulting in poor BECE results despite these resources.

Mr Appiah blamed parents who do not play their role for this state of affairs and urged parents to invest more in their children and to show interest in their academic performance.

Mr Franklin Dzigbede, the Shama District Director of Education, thanked the MP for the donation, which would go a long way to assist schools to improve their performance.

He urged individuals and organizations to follow the shining example of the MP because schools cannot deliver without logistic support.

Mr Dzigbede asked teachers to guide the school children to use ICT for academic and profitable purposes.
