Shama Ahanta Assembly to support creativity – MCE

Takoradi, Sept. 29, GNA – Mr. Philip K. Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive on Thursday said the Assembly would support creativity and innovation by Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs (SMEs) and ensure they received the needed patronage. He said many economically viable talents and innovations had been ignored by society that had delayed the growth and expansion of the SMEs.

Mr. Nkrumah made the pledge at the launching of Collapsible Mobile Kiosk at Takoradi.

The kiosk is ideal for beverage, fruits, mobile phone service providers and fast food operators.

It is three-sided with roof, shelves, and wheels and could be folded and moved away easily after use. It is made up of wood and metal. The project is being sponsored by Support Programme for Enterprise, Empowerment and Development (SPEED) Ghana.

Mr Nkrumah said the assembly would not allow its central business district to be overcrowded with wooden structures. He said the collapsible kiosk could be easily moved, and not obstruct vehicular traffic, pedestrian and walkways.

The MCE appealed to traders using wooden kiosks to adopt the new brand to make the business area friendly and attractive. Mr. Paul K. Damoah, Member of the Council of State, who chaired the function, said SMEs were unable to develop because most Assemblies ignored them in their planning activities.

He said patronage of the collapsible kiosks by the assemblies for petty traders would contribute towards innovation and the expansion of local expertise.

Mr. Damoah urged the producers to ensure the products used were acceptable and durable.

Mr. Joseph Brainoo, Team leader of the project said it was to offer local expertise to improve the financial base of SMEs.
