After five rounds in two different elections failed to produce the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly a Presiding Member (PM), a last election, held last Friday at the Guggisberg Memorial Hall in Dodowa, has produced a new PM.
In last Friday’s election, there were two rounds, and in the second round, Benjamin Manye, who had led in all the elections but failed to poll two-thirds of the valid votes to make him winner, eventually polled 23 valid votes out of a total of 32 votes, to emerge the winner.
His contender, Moses Kweku Teye, garnered nine valid votes, four less than the votes he polled in the first round of the day’s election.
In the first round of the last election, Benjamin Manye polled 19 votes, and the house had to strongly lobby to enable him win the second round of election with 23 votes.
Mr. Gabriel Manu, Shai-Osudoku District Electoral Officer, supervised the election and declared Benjamin Manye the winner.
In his brief victory speech, Benjamin Manye, the new Shai-Osudoku District Assembly PM, promised to work with all the assembly members to ensure that Shai-Osudoku sees the needed accelerated growth.
He charged the members to identify other sources from which the assembly could generate revenue in order to increase its internally generated funds (IGF).
He promised to tap all the positives of his predecessors to ensure that by the time his tenure ends in two years, Shai-Osudoku would become a case study to other districts in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking to The Chronicle after the election, Mr. Emmanuel Odoi Lartey, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, was thankful to all the delegates for deciding on a candidate after the long wait.
He said it cost the assembly more when the first two elections failed to give them a PM.
Mr Lartey welcomed all the newly-elected assembly members, and hoped that their fruitful deliberations at the assembly on the various sub-committees they shall find themselves on shall yield positive outcomes and to the betterment of the fast-growing Shai-Osudoku District.
