SFO busts Counterfieters

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and other security agencies have arrested four persons suspected to be members of a fake money and ticket printing syndicate.

The syndicate, whose operation is believed to have cost the state billions of cedis, in stolen revenue, printed tickets of agencies like the Ministry of Lands and Forestry, Ghana Airways, the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), IRS and the AMA.

In an interview in Accra yesterday, Messrs P. Okine and N. Ocquaye, officers in-charge of prevention and protection of the SFO respectively, said the ticket printed by members of the syndicate, who had been in operation for more than four years, resembled the genuine ones and were, therefore, difficult to determine whether they were fake or not which made it easier for them to be used to cheat.
