Fetentaa, (B/A) Dec. 26, GNA – United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and the United Nations High Commission on Refugees at the weekend organised community sexual sensitisation for Fetentaa.
The programme was focused on sexual and gender based-violence response for refugees from Cote d’ lvoire and Brong Ahafo Region as the host region. Mr Sampson Agbeko, Regional Co-ordinator of DOVVSU said it is the concern of the unit to enforce the law and protect the community against gender-based violence. He advised the people to report any violence against women and children to DOVVSU.
Mr Agbeko, mention some of the challenges DOVVSU is facing in regard to violence against women and children are lack of vehicles, provision of accommodation to the victims and inadequate funds to support victims. He called on the government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to assist DOVVSU to solve the problems facing the unit to operate effectively. Ms Bridget Asiamah, National Programme Analyst of UNFPA, urged the UN agencies, National Disaster Management, NGOs, and the Ghana Health Service to support the government to fight violence.
