Sex Education Does Not Encourage Bad Morals – Family Planner

Dunkwa-On-Offin (Central Region), 11 Nov. Mr. A. A Boakye-Yiadom, Zone Two Area Manager of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), has dismissed speculations that educating the youth about sex tend to encourage bad morals. He stressed that on the contrary, sex education helps to equip the youth with the right information that prepares them against having pre-marital sex and protect them against unwanted pregnancy. Mr. Boakye-Yiadom made the observation when he inaugurated the Family Life Education Club (FLEC) of the Boa Amponsem Secondary School (BOASS) at Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Upper-Denkyira District. The Area Manager commended the Ministry of Education for responding positively to the PPAG Family Life Education by adopting a stance that has made it possible for certain aspects of the FLEC to become part of the total school curriculum. Dr. Thomas Agyarko-Poku, Chairman of the National Youth Committee of the PPAG, stressed that the Club should adopt strategies and innovations that would prepare the youth for responsible adulthood. Mr. Isaac Gyamfi, Deputy District Director of Education who presided said education involves a whole range of studies both in and “outside the walls of the classroom, including general health and sex education.”
