Several injured in Takoradi

Effia (W/R) March 4 -GNA-Several travellers sustained various degrees of injuries when an Accra bound 38-seater Benz bus and a taxi cab were involved in an accident at Effia a suburb of Takoradi around 0540 hours on Saturday.

The taxi with registration number GR 8361 R was coming from the Fijai area when it ran into the left rear of the bus with registration number GR 4214 N.

The bus skidded off the road and somersaulted, resulting in the injuries while the driver of the taxi is in a critical condition at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

Most of the victims who had minor injuries were treated and discharged while those with severe wounds were admitted.

Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Effia, a student of the Takoradi Polytechnic and a victim said as their bus was approaching a curve near the Effia-CDH intersection, he saw that the taxi cab had moved from its lane onto the lane of the bus and in an effort to avoid a head on collusion, the driver of the bus swerved but again the taxi driver moved back unto his lane and this led to the crash.

Asuman Biney, the 32 year old driver of the benz bus said in an attempt to avoid the taxi cab, he swerved and this resulted in the somersault of his vehicle. The Effia Kuma Police is investigating the case.
