Seventeen Police Officers honoured

Accra, April 8, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Police Command on Thursday honoured 17 Police Officers for their dedication, hard work and commitment to duty.

They included four women, who were presented with 200,000 cedis and certificates each at a get-together held in Accra. The overall Best Officer award went to Police Inspector, Godfred Addai, a Dispatch Rider of the Kpeshie Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU). Mr Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander said the honour was to encourage other personnel to emulate them and bring honour to the Service.

Nana Stephen Owusu-Nsiah, Inspector General of Police, said the Police had the mandatory obligation to protect all Ghanaians and would perform their duty impartially.

He, however, called for cooperation from the public, media, Opinion Leaders, Chiefs and politicians to achieve this objective. The IGP stressed the need for politicians to be circumspect in their utterances because if they discredited the very institution, which protected them, then the public would also look at that institution with contempt, and this would not augur well for security.

He said the Service was not bias, adding: ” We work professionally without control of any political party”.

Nana Owusu-Nsiah appealed to all and sundry to work for peace, and gave the assurance that the security situation was under control. He said Ghanaians were prepared to prove to the world that they were matured and law-abiding.
