Seven years for defiling 12-year-old stepdaughter

Cape Coast Dec. 3, GNA – A circuit court in Cape Coast has slapped a seven-year jail sentence on a 36-year-old Security man, Gabriel Pinnaa for defiling his 12-year-old stepdaughter at Nkontrodo near Elmina. Pinna and his wife, who is three months pregnant and was in court, both wept bitterly when the court sentenced the convict. He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that, Pinnaa lives with his wife and stepdaughter in the same house.

He said on November 24, 2007, the victim’s mother travelled, and Pinnaa took advantage of her absence and defiled the victim and warned her to inform anyone otherwise he would beat her to death. He said three days later, Pinnaa again defiled the victim, after she had returned from swimming.

The prosecutor said when the girl’s mother returned from town she saw her daughter’s dress on her (mother) bag and questioned about it. The girls then told the mother what her step father had been doing to her.

He said when Pinnaa was questioned, he initially denied but when the matter was reported to the Domestic violence and Victims Support Unit (DVVSU) he admitted the offence.
