Seven Teachers Rewarded With Bicycles For Their Contributions To Educational Food-Assistance Support System

Bolgatanga, Aug 26, – Seven teachers in the Bolgatanga district have received bicycles and certificates from the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) for their contributions towards the Educational Support System (ESS). They include Mr Roger Yaro, Mr Dominic Bogning, Madam Alice Apana, and Denors Asusiba. The rest are Mr Pius Azeko, Madam Vivian Anafo and Mr Francis Sapaak. The ESS which involves the feeding of children in Early Childhood Development Centres and primary schools was instituted by the CRS in the three northern regions to encourage high enrolment and regular attendance of pupils. It also helps meet the nutritional needs of the children. Presenting the awards, Dr Albert Tenga, Bolgatanga District Chief Executive, paid tribute to the CRS for its timely intervention to feed children in the schools. He said without the CRS assistance, many children would have stopped schooling, especially in the rural areas, and appealed to other non-governmental organizations to come to the aid of the district. He said food shortages caused by poor rainfall this year would lead to serious hunger in the region.
