Seven junior high schools (JHSs) in Denkyembuor District in the Eastern Region recorded zero per cent in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
Ten other schools scored below 45 per cent, Mr Kwaku Ofori-Abrokwa, the District Chief Executive (DCE) made this known at the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the District Assembly at Akwatia on Monday.
“This is an abysmal performance and measures must immediately be instituted to correct it,” he said.
The DCE has therefore tasked the District Education Directorate and the Education oversight Committee to delve into the root causes of the abysmal performance.
He said the assembly would brainstorm and come out with pragmatic measures to improve the education performance in the district.
Mr Ofori-Abrokwa called on stakeholders, including parents and teachers to work assiduously to improve the performance of pupils.
He gave the assurance that the assembly would continue to provide the needed educational infrastructure and to institute a scholarship scheme for best students in the 2013 BECE.
