Seven Policemen Interdicted

The inspector-general of police (IGP), Mr Patrick Acheampong, has ordered the immediate interdiction of seven policemen stationed in Kumasi for allegedly undertaking an unauthorized operation resulting in the death of an innocent by-stander at Ampabame, a suburb of Kumasi on March 17.

They are Lance Corporals Samuel Wunyi, Abrose Arsoah and A Nyantakyi. The rest are Constables David Afriyie, Felix Tefe, Vincent Kumah and Johnson Mensah.

They were said to have gone to arrest narcotic drug peddlers and gamblers at a car-washing bay at a time that they were supposed to be on guard duties at some banks in the metropolis.

Mr Kwaku Ayensu Opare-Addo, acting Ashanti regional police commander, who disclosed this to the paper yesterday, described the conduct of the policemen as highly unprofessional and indicated that they would face an enquiry board next week.
