Seven people die in an accident

Bibiani, (W/R), May 13, GNA – Four people died on the spot and three others at the Bibiani Government Hospital when a 207 Benz bus collided headlong with a 33-seater benz bus in an accident at Nzema-Nkwanta near Bibiani in the Western region on Friday. The body of one of the victims, identified as Kofi Basare, who was the driver of the 207 Benz bus and the six unidentified victims have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Bibiani on Friday, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Felix Toya, the Bibiani District Police Commander, said at about 8300 hours, the 207 Benz bus which was carrying passengers from Sefwi-Nsawora was negotiating a curve when the 33-seater bus which was overtaking a KIA vehicle carrying charcoal collided with the oncoming vehicle.

He said the other passengers who sustained various degrees of injuries had been admitted at the hospital, while those in critical conditions have been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

ASP Toya advised drivers to exercise restraint on the road and make sure that they have a clear view before they overtook a vehicle. He said police investigations were still on-going to identify the cause of the accident.
