Seven in court for connecting electricity illegally

Wa, March 2 GNA – The Wa Circuit Court, has imposed a total fine of 6.3 million cedis on seven persons for illegally connecting electricity to their homes. Salifu Adam, Sulemana Zakaria, Faisal Ali, Rafiq Adam, Zenatu Adam, Ibrahim Saeed and Hadidu Adam, who pleaded guilty would be jailed for seven years in default.

The prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Stephen Dobara said the accused persons were among 13 people arrested on February 15 by a taskforce from the Volta River Authority and the Police Service during a house-to-house inspection. The presiding Judge Alhaji M. Mustapha said the fine would serve as deterrence to people who connect power illegally and tamper with electric metres.
