Setup union scheme to support members after retirement – Headmaster

Managers of the Ghana National Association of Teachers’ (GNAT) Teachers Fund have been entreated to look outside the box and make the fund retirement friendly for its members.

Mr Shaibu Wilberforce Adams, Headmaster of the Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO), who made the call, said this would safeguard the welfare of members and minimize the tendency of depending on government for mega pension payable to retired public and civil servants.

Mr Adams was speaking during the Northern Regional Launch of the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the GNAT Teachers Fund in Tamale on the theme: “TF@20: Invest to Benefit Today and Secure your Future”.

The celebration will be climaxed in May, next year, with an awards ceremony.

Mr Alhassan Mustapha, Sagnarigu District Director of Education spoke about benefits of welfare schemes by unions advising teachers to consciously make retirement plans that would guarantee their comfort during retirement.

Mr Atta Longiya, Northern Regional Chairman of GNAT gave the assurance that Managers of the GNAT Teachers Fund would continue to effectively manage the fund to improve on the socioeconomic well-being of members during retirement.
