The amicable settlement of a protracted chieftaincy litigation at Enyan Dekyira, has finally paved the way for the successful celebration of the annual Akwambo Festival of the chiefs and people of the Enyan Traditional Area.
The festival attracted a large crowd of people from all walks of life.
Addressing a colourful durbar to mark the festival, the Omanhene of the Area, Osabarimaba Kwaw Otsibu the Sixth, commended the Member of Parliament of the area, Mr Atto Forson, and Nana Kwebu Ewusi, President of the Central Regional House Chiefs, for ensuring an amicable settlement.
He urged citizens in the area to contribute positively towards the area’s development, especially by supporting the Enyan Education Endowment Fund to support bright but needy students.
Osabarimaba Otsibu appealed to government and the Ghana Education Service (GES), to provide a science laboratory to the Enyan Denkyira Senior High School and an ICT for the JSS.
He said land has been earmarked for the two projects.
Mr Peter-light Koomson, District Chief Executive for the area, said each of the five Paramount Traditional Areas in the district, would benefit from a 50,000-Ghana-Cedi grant from the Ghana Social Opportunity Fund for development.
Mr Atto Forson, who is also the Deputy Minister of Finance, assured the people that now that there was peace in the area, every effort would be made to support developmental programmes.
He said the Central Regional Development Co-operation (CEDECOM) would soon start the construction of Bus Rest Stops along the route from Mankessim to Agona Swedru, giving the assurance that Enyan Denkyira will have one.
Mr Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Education, assured the Omanhene that schools in the town would benefit from the supply of 30,000 computers by the GES to schools nationwide.
Mr Albert Kwabena Koomson, former district director of Distant Education, and chairman for the occasion, donated 5,000 Ghana Cedis towards the Endowment Fund, and promised an annual donation of 2,000 Ghana Cedis.
