Winneba, Dec 19, GNA – The President Progressive Youth Club (PYC) at Winneba, Mr. Philip Adu-Mensah, has called on traditional and religious leaders to set up task forces to intensify the awareness campaign on the HIV/AIDS menace.
He said this was necessary in view of the fast rate the disease was spreading.
Mr. Adu-Mensah was addressing a public forum organised by the Club to educate the youth on the dangers and threat HIV/AIDS posed to the individual and the nation at Winneba.
He expressed regret that despite the publicity on the harmful effect of the pandemic, many people still showed lukewarm attitude to it. Mr. Kofi Wilson, a resource person of Green Care and Girl Child Foundation for HIV/AIDS, in an interview with the GNA called for the repackaging of messages on the disease to make them more effective and acceptable.
He pointed out that the campaign against AIDS should promote other methods including abstinence instead of the use of condoms and urged the youth to be mindful of their sexual behaviour.
