Senior citizens in Adansi South District feted

New Edubiase (Ash), July 4, GNA – The Adansi South District Assembly has organised a get-together for senior citizens in the district to mark Republic Day at New Edubiase. The over 180 senior citizens were treated to during which they shared memories of their past services to the nation. Addressing the gathering Mr Francis Dorpenyoh, the District Chief Executive, said the aged played pioneering roles in the peace, stability and accelerated development that the present generation was enjoying hence it was imperative to recognize their efforts. He said it was sad that in spite of the contributions of the aged some of them had been left to go through psychological, physical and emotional trauma.

Mr Dorpenyoh appealed to family members to take good care of the old in recognition of their services to the family, the community and the nation.

Touching on the December election, Mr Dorpenyoh appealed to leaders and supporters of political parties to go about their campaigns in a peaceful manner devoid of assaults and intimidation. Nana Kwaku Amoah, Dwantoafohene of Edubiase and former presiding member of the assembly, called on the people not to politicize the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and rather get their names registered.

He appealed to the government to extend the school feeding programme to more schools in the district since only two are covered. The senior citizens pledged to bring their experiences and expertise to bear in their respective communities to serve as a source of inspiration for the younger generation. 04 July 08
