Senior Citizen Solicits Support for Golden Anniversary

As the 50th Anniversary of Ghana’s independence draws nearer, members and Patrons of National Association of Ghanaian Communities in Nigeria (NAGHACON), have been urged to contribute towards the success of the event.

A senior Patron of the Association, who is also the Chairman of Chamber of NAGHACON Patrons in Lagos, Mr. Atiemo Gyan, in the Patrons’ meeting held at the Ghana High Commission, Lagos Office at the weekend, urged all Ghanaians resident in Nigeria, to see the occasion as a landmark not only for Ghana, but also for the entire continent of Africa.

He appealed to them to donate generously towards the celebrations in addition to seeing their position as vital in having the event rolled out in style.

This, he said could be possible if there is unity among Ghanaians living in Nigeria.

Gyan said: “Being a Patron of NAGHACON is a national honour and therefore, we should live up to the responsibilities and challenges. The intention of Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu to lead other traditional rulers to the Anniversary shows the level of good relationship between Nigeria and Ghana”

The President of NAGHACON, Mr. James Kwegyir-Aggrey, disclosed that the anniversary would be an exhibition of Ghanaian Cultural values, like food, dressing, dancing and music among others.

Aggrey said that the Association is trying to compile the Data of Ghanaians living in Nigeria. He stated further that Nigerians and other nationals, who wish to attend the celebration in Ghana, could collect forms from the National Secretariat of the Association or Ghana High Commission in Lagos.

According to him, those to attend the event will also seize the opportunity to see many of the historical sites in that country.
