Accra, May 31, GNA- Senior accountants in management positions on Tuesday condemned the spate of indiscipline among student professionals and called for strict adherence to the profession’s ethics. The senior accountants drawn from Unilever Ghana, Auditor Generals Department, Banks, Ghana Health Service and some private establishments therefore suggested the ban and cancellation of names of student professionals who misconduct themselves.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting held by Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) Ghana, they decried the behaviour of students who undertook various courses but failed to write or sit for examination of the association.
The meeting brought together 30 senior accounts with the aim of soliciting ideas that would enhance the growth of ACCA Ghana. “ACCA should apply bonds and punishments to students who misconduct, in fact they should be told that their name could be struck out from the association’s register if the need arose.”
They therefore suggested to ACCA Ghana, to enforce its rules and regulations to instil discipline in student professionals. The Accountants urged the ACCA, Ghana office to provide books at the country’s community Libraries to enable students have access to educational materials.
They called for unity among members of ACCA, Ghana and the Institute of Chartered Accountants saying, “we should not see ourselves as enemies but as one people working hard to raise accounting standards.” Mrs Zumeral Mohammed, Manager of ACCA, Ghana said the association was holding discussions with its mother organisation to raise entry requirement from aggregate 24 to 20 to raise standards. She called for an exchange programme for students, adding “a meeting would be held with the various branches in various institutions to that effect.”
