Send Gitmo 2 back to America – Catholic Bishops fume

The accommodation of the Gitmo two in Ghana continues to be oppossed by Ghanaians with the latest body to speak against their stay has been the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference.

Ghana’s Supreme court had revealed that the stay of the Gitmo two is illegal a situation which is likely to see government consider whether or not to let them go. President of the Bishops Conference is making the argument that since the Supreme Court has made such a ruling, there is no need for the men to still be living in Ghana.

Speaking to Citi FM on the development, Reverend Philip Naameh, revealed that failure to repatriate the men could act as a dereliction of the rule of law on the part of government.

“I will think that it is the most logical thing because we were saying we did not see that it was legal enough and it has been confirmed by the Supreme Court ruling and therefore if they will take them back to the US, we will have no issue with that,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, government has revealed that both ex-detainees had comported themselves ever since they were brought to Ghana as former president Mahama, while in office, assured the public that the coming in of the Gitmo two will not be of a threat to the country’s peace and security.
