SEND-GHANA in collaboration with the World Bank has held a Consultative forum towards the 2016 budget on health and education to collate views, recommendations and concerns of the citizens.
The workshop was on the theme: “Civil Society organisations (CSOs) Review of the 2015 Budget in preparation for inputting to the 2016 Budget”.
Mr John Nkaw, the Programme Officer of SEND-GHANA, appealed to government to support more trained teachers to expand educational facilities with the view of meeting the target of 95 per cent of trained teachers at the basic level in the medium term.
He said in the 2016 budget, government should also consider expanding the CHPS compounds nationwide to bring basic healthcare to the doorsteps of the people, especially in the rural areas.
Some participants also suggested that government should build more accommodations for health staff and also provide ambulances to the rural communities’ health care centres to improve quality healthcare delivery.
They also suggested to government to allocate more resources for monitoring and supervision of learners under the formal education programme in the 2016 budget.
They stressed the need for government to construct additional school blocks for communities to ensure the removal of schools under trees to improve the performance of the public schools.
