Sempe Mantse sues businessman for defamation

An Accra High Court has issued a writ of summons commanding the appearance of one Mr. Fred Adjie Brown to enter an appearance in court in a defamation suit filed by Nii Otintor II, the Sempe Mantse.

The plaintiff is seeking an order from the court directing the defendant to retract all defamatory statements and apologise on the said radio station in Accra.

The plaintiff is also praying the court to award damages for defamation in the sum of ten million Ghana cedis (Ghc10,000,000), his legal cost and others that the court may grant.

Mr. Fred Adjei Brown, a businessman in Accra, according to the plaintiff’s statement of claim, somewhere in April, this year, was hosted on Accra based Radio Gold where he made statements that the plaintiff considers defamatory of his person and the Sempe stool which he occupies.

The Plaintiff avers that due to the said defamatory words published by the defendant, he has suffered great stress, embarrassment and damage to his reputation as a paramount chief.
