Seminar on patient’s rights and responsibilities

Gomoa Ankamu, March 4, GNA- New Life Foundation NLF), an indigenous Non-governmental organisation, has organised a day’s seminar on, ” Patients Rights and Responsibilities” for stakeholders at Ankamu in the Gomoa District of the Central Region.

The seminar, which was on the theme: “Promoting the Rights and Responsibilities of Patient’s” was attended by traditional rulers, assembly members, teachers, religious leaders, journalists, artisans and heads of department.

Mr Roger Amoako, Programme Manager of NLF said the seminar was aimed at promoting the rights of the vulnerable groups and individuals in society.

He said: ” The patient has the right to quality basic health care, irrespective of his/her geographical location”.

Mr Amoako said patients were entitled to information on their health conditions and management and the possible risks involved, except in emergency cases.

Mr Edmund Osei, Kawkye, Executive Director of NLF said his outfit would organise radio talk shows and other educational programmes for health service providers.

Peer educators and other health volunteers will be trained to create public awareness of patient’s rights and responsibilities.

Mr Osei Kawkye said NLF would soon launch an awareness campaign on tuberculosis and malaria and establish a voluntary counselling and testing centre at Ankamu.

NLF promotes the rights of women and children and the under privileged in society.
