Seminar held for school librarians

Mankranso (Ash), Sept 10, GNA- A one-day library management training seminar for over 120 primary school library teachers from the Ahafo-Ano South District has been held at Mankranso in Ashanti. The seminar was organised by the district directorate of education in collaboration with the Ghana Book Trust (GBT) and sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

The seminar aimed at equipping the library teachers with skills in library management and creating the awareness of pupils to reading. The participants were taken through the setting up of school libraries, keeping of proper records of books and borrowing of books by pupils.

Mr Kwaku Obeng Boateng, the Ahafo-Ano South District Chief Executive, said 10 schools in the district have been provided with libraries.

Mr Robert Amoako, the Executive Director of GBT, said it is the policy of the Trust to provide reading books to schools in the country to encourage pupils to take to reading.
