Sell only prescribed drugs in Gomoa West-DMAT

Apam (C/R), May 3, GNA – The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has charged the Gomoa West District Malaria Advocacy Team (DMAT), to ensure that only prescribed drugs are sold to the public. The DCE said this when inaugurating an 11-member DMAT of the Gomoa West District Assembly at Apam, under the chairmanship of Mr Juba Jehu-Appiah, who is also an Assembly Member. He said 0.5 percent of the Gomoa West district Assembly common fund has been set aside to fight malaria in the district and that the Apam Catholic hospital has been assisted with GHC 2,000.00 for such purpose. Mr Aidoo-Mensah pledged that he would offer the DMAT the necessary support to enable it to succeed in the fight against malaria and them to monitor the activities of chemical sellers in the district. The Country Director of the Johns Hopkins University Voices Project, Mr Emmanuel Fiagbey, advised the people of the area to sleep under mosquito nets to prevent malaria, and that, the use of appropriate medicines can go a long way to reduce malaria infections in the communities. The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mr Fred Oscar Abban, who chaired the function, urged members of the team to ensure that the district becomes malaria free in the Region.
