A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Amo-Yartey, has sentenced a self-professed teacher to 32 years imprisonment for robbery.
Patrick Mordo, 24, would dress like a student, carrying a school bag and engage the services of taxi drivers. He would pull a gun and rob them midway through the journey.
He pleaded not guilty to the crime.
Miss Cecilia Animah Peprah, Assistant State Attorney, told the court that the complainants, Prince Appiah and Alex Mensah, are taxi drivers in Kumasi.
The convict claims to be a teacher in Accra.
On June 5, at about 0320 hours, Mordo robbed Appiah of his cellular phone and cash of GH¢72.00, after he had hired him to take him to Boadi, a suburb of Kumasi.
He later attempted to rob Mensah but this time his trick did not work.
Unknown to Mordo, most of the drivers, including Mensah, had been alerted by their colleagues, who had fallen victim to his robbery and so he would not be deceived.
He subjected the convict to a barrage of questions and Mordo, sensing danger, took to his heels.
The convict was arrested with the help of other drivers, after a hot chase, and handed over to the police.
A search conducted on him and a bag he was carrying at the police station uncovered a locally-manufactured pistol, a live cartridge, dagger and his driving license.
