Asamankese (E/R,) June 1, GNA – A self-styled Businessman, Abubakar Mohammed, who allegedly collected five million cedis with the promise to supply five bales of second-hand clothing but failed to deliver was on Tuesday remanded in Prison custody by the Asamankese Circuit Court. The plea of Mohammed was not taken and would reappear on June 16. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector S. A. Ntow said on May 4, this year, Mohammed, who claimed to work for a Tema company, collected the amount from an Akwatia trader, Kwasi Sarfo, with the promise to procure him the bales within a week.
He said Sarfo, after the expiry of the promised date, made a number of telephone calls to Mohammed before succeeding in getting him. He told him cock and bull stories.
In order to entice him to be arrested, Sarfo invited the accused down to Akwatia ostensibly for additional money for more bales but got him arrested when he was in the process of collecting the money. Chief Inspector Ntow said in a cautioned statement, Abubakar alleged that the money was collected not for second-hand clothing but for cocaine and fake currency but failed to provide evidence of that.
