Sekyere West holds mathematics workshop

A day’s workshop on the teaching and learning of mathematics has been held for primary school teachers of mathematics in the Sekyere West District at Asante-Mampong.

The well-attended workshop was aimed at providing a forum for mathematic teachers to brainstorm on problems associated with teaching and learning of the subject and the way forward.

The participants discussed the mathematics syllabus, the inherent problems in it and the preparation of the weekly forecast and lesson notes based on the approved government textbooks.

Mr Thomas Edward Atakorah, the District Chief Executive, deplored mass failure of students in mathematics examinations at all levels of education.

This, he said, had prevented many people from pursuing higher education and appealed to the participants to find an antidote to the problem.

Quality education, Mr Atakora said, was the engine of national development and urged teachers to produce human resources capable of meeting the challenges of technological advancement.
