Sekondi: Mobile money vendor faints over GHC6k scam

The entire Nkotompo Township in Sekondi was thrown into a state of shock Wednesday evening when an MTN mobile money vendor Emmanuel Dadzie collapsed after falling victim to a mobile money scam.

According to reports, the suspect 37-year-old Mena Ekua went to the vendor and asked him to transfer an amount of GHC2000 each to three different mobile contacts summing up to GHC6000.

When the vendor demanded payment after the transaction, the suspect told him that she had come to transfer the money to the contacts because she was called by someone who claimed to work with MTN and that she had won a raffle with MTN and needed to transfer the cash in order to redeem her cash package.

The vendor reportedly collapsed immediately upon hearing the explanation.

He was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Mother of the victim, Madam Aba told Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan that even though the family of Mena Ekua has agreed to pay the money, the Sekondi police have taken over the case.

The suspect has since been granted bail by the Police.
