Sekondi Knowledge Centre launched.

Sekondi, Oct. 14, GNA- The Ghana Information Network for Knowledge sharing (GINKS), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in collaboration with the Ghana library Board has set up a knowledge centre at Sekondi. Madam Sophia Honner-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister said at the launch of the centre on Tuesday that one of the areas of priority in terms of policy focus for development as envisioned by President J. A. Kufuor is in the area of Information Communication Technology (ICT). She said it was in pursuit of this policy that he has negotiated with the Government of India for the establishment of ICT centre of excellence, which is almost complete.

Madam Horner-Sam said in line with the policy a committee has also been put in place to develop an ICT policy for Ghana. The committee, she said, has toured all the regions of the country to solicit views from the public as an input for the development of the policy.

Madam Horner-Sam said she was happy the Sekondi knowledge centre is in tune with the development agenda of the government and expressed the hope that everything possible would be done to ensure that the centre’s programme remains on course.

She appealed to officials at the centre to have a friendly disposition so that their clients would feel free to approach them. She said with the establishment of the Sekondi knowledge centre, the public would be well informed about events and happenings going on around them.

Mrs. Akita expressed her gratitude to the Sekondi-Takoradi Development Association based in the United States for donating nine computers to the centre.
