Seize weapons from Northerners to secure peace

The West African Network for Peace Building has warning that the security situation in the north will remain volatile until the security agencies stop the proliferation of arms there.

It follows the killing of one person and the injuring of four others in violent clashes that erupted between two communities in Tamale.

Police in the area are also struggling to contain the violent clashes between the Bimobas and Konkombas in the nearby town of Kpamale.

National Coordinator for WANEP Justin Bayor said the security agencies there must do a lot more to retrieve the weapons.

But the Northern Regional Police command says lack of information from the indigenes is not helping its efforts to retrieve illegally acquired arms.

Superintendent Mahama Arhin, the Crime Officer said they need more information to arrest people.

He added that the Police will intensify patrols and meet with informants for more arrests.
