Seini Quit Because He Was Not Made VP -Botwe

Twenty-four hours after the announcement by its former vice-chairman that he was pitching camp with the NDC, the NPP General Secretary, Mr. Dan Botwe has revealed that Prof. Wayo Seini resigned from his position on 11th September 2000 because he was not nominated as the running mate to Mr. J. A. Kufuor in the 2000 general election.

Mr. Dan Botwe criticized Prof. Seini for hiding the truth behind his resignation then.

Mr. Botwe told Peace FM that the excuse Prof. Seini gave that he wanted to concentrate on his academic work was not true. He said Prof. Seini resigned from his post because the NPP had then nominated Alhaji Aliu Mahama as the running mate to Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor who was then leading the party to the 2000 presidential election.

According to Mr. Botwe, the party has for the past two years ceased to recognize Dr. Seini as a member since he resigned three months to the 2000 elections.

Mr. Dan Botwe?s assertions were corroborated by the NPP MP for Assin-North, Kennedy Agyepong who was among the panel of discussants on Peace FM?s ?Kokrokoo? morning show on Tuesday. Hon Agyepong said he would not be surprised if Prof. Seini?s decision to join the NDC may have come from a promise that he would be made the running mate of its flagbearer, Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills.

Meanwhile Prof. Seini has categorically denied allegations that that he had been promised the vice-presidential slot by the NDC.

He maintained that his decision is influenced by the fact that the NDC is only the political party that has been able to rule the country with a blend of Nkrumaist and Busiaist ideas, or better still the socialist democrat system, that allows the state to create wealth for equitable distribution.
