Obuasi, Jan. 23, GNA- The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Mr Frank Adu-Poku on Friday called on the security agencies in the country to work as a team to ensure peace and stability.
He said this was necessary in view of the fact that society had become complex and associated with sophisticated crimes and problems. Mr Adu-Poku was addressing the West Africa Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) organised for police personnel in the Obuasi District, at Obuasi.
He commended the police in the region its dedication to duty that resulted in a reduction in criminal activities during the last Christmas.
Mr Adu-Poku said: “I am satisfied with the work of the police in the region of which Obuasi policemen and women are among”, but said there were more challenges ahead.
He said: “The armed robbers are still operating and the illegal mining activities are still going on”.
Mr K.A. Oduro, the Obuasi Divisional Police Commander, said the success of the police last year, should not make the personnel swollen headed but should demonstrate extra commitment to their job. Mr Philip Andoh, the Officer in-charge of the Obuasi Municipal office of the Ghana Immigration Service, commended the police for working tremendously to ensure peace in the area.
Mr Kwadwo Amoako Darkwa, the Programmes Manager of Shaft FM in Obuasi, promised that the station would assist the security agencies to promote security.
Some of the policemen called for the improvement of facilities at the Obuasi police barrack and complained that the rooms of the barracks were too small to accommodate they and their families. Mr Osei Kwame, a magistrate at Obuasi, who presided, called on the police to take time in investigating cases to ensure justice.
