Security guard arrested in connection with vehicle theft

Yendi, Dec. 25, GNA – The Police have arrested a 32 year-old man, Samad Umar alias Bawa, a security guard of a private security company in Accra, at Yendi in connection with a stolen Civilian Nissan bus with registration number GT 8427 V.

According to the Yendi District Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benjamin Kojo Gyasi, the vehicle belonging to the Pergah Transport Company was stolen by the suspect on December 1, this year and driven to Yendi on December 3, 2004.

ASP Gyasi said upon a tip-off the vehicle was found hidden at Balogu a suburb of Yendi covered with tarpaulin. He said the Police mounted surveillance until this morning. As they were looking for a means to tow the vehicle to Police Station, the suspect was spotted near a school and he was arrested and placed in the Yendi Police cells.

ASP Gyasi said upon interrogation the suspect said he was a private security guard at Pergah Transport where he stole the vehicle. According to the Crime Officer, the suspect said he hired somebody whose name was being withheld to drive him to Yendi where he intended to use the vehicle to ply the Yendi-Tamale route. 25 Dec. 04
