Security Flats Occupants Given Ultimatum

Occupants of houses and flats meant for security personnel have been given an ultimatum to vacate them by October 20.

This followed persistent disregard for previous directives by the authorities to pave way for newly, assigned personnel to have access to facilitate their operations.

Reliable sources told GNA at the weekend that some personnel who were assigned special duties under the previous administration have failed to vacate the facilities, making it difficult to house those now in their former schedules.

The sources, however, said the authorities had been tactful in handling the issue in order not to inflame passions, but until the present occupants vacated, it would be difficult to provide new accommodation for the new personnel in spite of the flats recently secured for some of them at Okponglo, near Legon.

They denied speculations that the security personnel had been neglected and said government attached great importance to their duties.

Some personnel GNA spoke to expressed their displeasure about what they called ?negative speculations? especially in the media since they could jeopardise loyalty to the state.

They called on the media to be circumspect in reporting security issues to avoid unnecessary tension.
