A police officer has said security arrangements being put in place by the Ghana Police Service to ensure peace when the Supreme Court announces its verdict on the election 2012 petition and beyond, are not meant to threaten anybody.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Stephen Boadu, the Akyem Oda Divisional Crime Officer of the Ghana Police Service, said the preparations are to ensure the safety of all law-abiding persons in Ghana.
He said this when he led a team of officers from Accra and Akyem Oda to tour churches at Oda to impress on members to stay calm after the verdict and to assure members that the police had made the necessary arrangements to ensure peace in the area.
“We want to warn people who have planned to take advantage of the situation to foment trouble for their selfish ends that the police are ready to deal with them,” he said.
DSP Boadu said on August 29, just before the declaration of the verdict, the Akyem Oda Division would see security personnel from the Police Rapid Responds Unit, the Squadron Unit and the Achiase Jungle Warfare Unit of the Ghana Armed Forces patrolling the area.
DSP Boadu appealed to church members to assist the police to make peace prevail by urging their relatives to receive the verdict of the Supreme Court in good faith.
