The security agencies in the northern region are on alert to quell any potential violence following the acquittal and discharge of two men who were facing trial for the murder of the Dagbon King.
A-seven member jury discharged the second accused, Iddrisu Gyanfo last week and the first accused, Yidana Sugri, this week for lack of evidence that they killed the Ya Naa.
There are concerns that the men’s acquittals could spark of violence between the two factions in the Dagbon conflict, the Abudus and the Andanis.
Regional minister Ernest Debrah says intelligence reports on the ground does not support any potential threat to peace.
He however he says the security agencies have been placed on alert to quell any confusion in the area.
Mr. Debrah says the peace process being facilitated by the traditional rulers, is making progress.
He says the chief’s palace, which was burnt during last year’s conflict, is under reconstruction ahead of the burial of the Ya Naa.
Three prominent chiefs tasked to help restore peace in the region have been meeting with the two factions in the conflict.
The minister says an announcement will be made as soon as a major breakthrough is achieved.
