Second year medical student commits suicide

Saltpond (C/R), Aug. 16, GNA – Alfred Duker, a nineteen-year-old medical student of the University of Ghana Medical School, on Saturday hanged himself in his room at Eguabado, in Saltpond.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Saltpond on Tuesday, Mr Frank Wilfred Anning, Saltpond District Police Commander said a report was made to the police at about 20.00 hours on Saturday, August 12 that a student had hanged himself.

DSP Anning said when the police personnel visited the house at Eguabado, a suburb of Saltpond; they found Duker hanging on a rope attached to the ceiling of his room.

He said there was no note or anything found on him to indicate why he took that action.

DSP Anning said no family member was able to give any clue as to why the student decided to take his life.

He said the police did not suspect any foul play. The body has been kept at Saltpond District Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
