SDA hospital re-opens after attack

The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital in the Tamale metropolis re-opened on Tuesday, October 27, after it was temporarily closed due to some disturbances that occurred on Monday night.

When the GNA visited the facility, staff of the hospital who pleaded anonymity said those at the emergency wards are being taken care off but indicated that all the wards are still closed to patients but gave the assured that work would soon resume at the facility.

Meanwhile a team of police personnel are patrolling the facility to ensure law and order prevails.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer told the GNA that on Monday 26, at about 20:30 GMT, police picked signals that there were disturbances at the facility and rushed to the scene to avert trouble.

He said when the police arrived at the scene, a group of people who had mobilised and where taking the law into their hands fled.

ASP Tetteh said a group was mobilised by three unidentified persons who displayed unruly behavior at the hospital.

He said nurses on duty told the three persons to avoid making noise since it was distractive to patients on admission.

ASP Tetteh said this did not go down well with them and so mobilise people to cause trouble, which resulted in the injury of five personnel of the hospital who have since been treated and discharged.

He said no arrest has been made.
