Scratch card thief jailed five years

A 22-year-old unemployed man, who was caught stealing from a supermarket at the Adum STC Yard, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Kwabena Owusu pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Inspector Daniel Opoku told the court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the crime was committed on April 5.

He said the owner of the shop, Ms Ama Nyarko Sika, had left it in the care of an assistant as she visited her sick mother at the hospital.

He said no sooner had she gone than a customer entered and while being attend to, the convict slipped in and attempted to make away with assorted phone scratch cards worth GH¢600.00 together with a sum of GH¢500.00.

The shop assistant saw him committing the act and raised the alarm but he managed to flee only to be given out later by his own mother and was arrested.
