Scrap Ghana Law School – Kofi Bentil

The Ghana Law School must be scrapped and made an examination body, private lawyer Kofi Bentil has said.

The member of pressure group OccupyGhana wrote on Facebook: “…Please act now!!! Scrap the Law School and make the GLC an examination body.

“There is no real debate. The GLC must become an examining body like ACCA or ICA not a school. Legal education must not be fettered. No one must be restricted from becoming a lawyer. There will never be an overproduction of lawyers. Bad lawyers will always lack clients. Good lawyers will always have clients.”

Mr Bentil, who is the vice president of civil society group Imani Africa, has also started an online petition to gather support towards pushing for the General Legal Council to be made an examination body.

“OPEN UP LEGAL EDUCATION; I just created an important petition at iPetitions.com. THE GENERAL LEGAL COUNCIL MUST BECOME AN EXAMINING BODY NOT A SCHOOL, AND ALLOW ALL QUALIFIED CANDIDATES TO TAKE THE BAR EXAMS, NOT JUST THEIR STUDENTS AT THE GHANA SCHOOL OF LAW. Please show your support by signing my petition,” he wrote on Facebook.
