Accra, Jan. 13, GNA – A scrap dealer who allegedly collected 62 million cedis from an Accountant under the pretext of supplying him with scraps but lost the money after presenting it to a fetish priest to double it for him on Thursday appeared before a Circuit Court charged with fraud.
Charles Kwofie pleaded not guilty.
The Court presided over Mrs Elizabeth Ankomah admitted him to a 70 million cedis bail with two sureties to reappear on February 10, this year.
The Court further ordered Kwofie to start repayment before the next adjourned date.
The facts as presented by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zakaria Dudimah were that Kwofie in December 2003 approached the Accountant, Mr Kwasi Osei Owusu, who is also a Director of Fair Works Limited, exporters of scrap metals, that he had large quantities of scrap to purchase from the Volta River Authority (VRA) and needed money to go and pay for it.
Prosecution said Mr Owusu gave 35 million cedis to Kwofie to enable him to purchase the scrap metal. Weeks later Kwofie went for additional 27 million cedis and promised to deliver the scraps but failed to do so.
DSP Dudimah said Police investigations revealed that a Fetish Priest, promised to double the money for Kwofie swindled him.
