Bongo (U/E), Sept. 12, GNA – School girls in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region have been advised not to allow the resources used to equip them with knowledge and skills at the Science, Technology and Mathematics Education (STME) Clinic to come to nought by becoming pregnant.
As young boys and girls they should also refrain from casual and pre-material sex so as not to contract HIV/AIDS.
The Bong District Director of Education, Mr Francis Dong-Betigr gave the advice when he closed a week’s STME clinic for 100 girls and 20 boys in junior and senior secondary schools n the District. This is the first time boys were made to take part in the clinic since it was introduced.
The Bongo District also has a high school dropout rate due to teenage pregnancy and elopement.
Mr Dong-Betigr charged the students, especially the boys, to spread the message to their colleagues to take part next year and to demystify science and mathematics and set achievable goals. The District Director appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to establish a Science Resource Centre in Bongo.
